Free spirited with a heart lusting for adventure, Melissa Griffiths has dabbled in creative projects since she can remember. Growing up surrounded by nature and secluded beaches, Melissa draws her inspiration from the diverse places she has travelled, her love of textiles and recently raising her three (wild) girls while living in a bus.
In 2019 Melissa and her family took Barefoot Wanderer to the road, travelling Australia whilst running the business from their bus, Lola. After 7months COVID19 put a hold on their travel plans but not on their ever present dreams. Melissa and her family ended up selling their beloved Toyota Coaster, Lola to upgrade to a 12.5 meter Hino Bus which will become the family's permanent home for the foreseeable future.
This down time has allowed Melissa to focus on growing Barefoot Wanderer to incorporate Womens and Children's apparel into it's collections. An idea that was sparked after months of frugal bus living caused Melissa to consider her everyday wardrobe - or lack there of, in a different way.
"We didn't have much storage space in our bus so it meant that we only had a couple of outfits each. I would wear the same clothing from the minute I'd wake up of a morning and then to bed again that night. And they weren't pyjamas, those clothes were worn all day as well. On hike's, for my morning yoga session, they'd be the clothes I'd wear out to dinner too."
Melissa then began designing clothing that was both aesthetically pleasing and multi-purposeful whilst keeping the health of our environment at the forefront of all her decisions.
After months of hard work Melissa hopes to launch her new collection in January 2021. You can expect to see vibrant vintage inspired prints, on easy-wear cuts that ooze personality, an adventurous spirt and are kind to Mother Earth.
